2018 IGBOGBO DAY INTERNATIONAL CARNIVAL






 A famous city in the Eastern part of Lagos state which features an indigenous Yoruba town, “ Ikorodu”. The city of Ikorodu has sub- divisions in which the wonderful town of “Igbogbo” belongs to.

Every year, the people of Igbogbo take it in high esteem to celebrate their culture, tradition, and people with their annual celebration called the Igbogbos Day celebrations. 2018 was no exception as it featured side attractions such as Football competitions, Beauty Pageant, Educational competitions, Cultural parade, Trade Fair, Raffle Tickets Winning, amongst other events. But one event that really caught our fancies was the Igbogbo day carnival.

On a sunny Saturday morning, 17th November 2018 at about 10am. Residents from all works of life in the outskirts of Igbogbo converged at Igbogbo Stadium to take off for the highly anticipated rally. The punctuality and attendance of these groups, associations and communities was a major factor in the order of walking and parading for the rally.



From the well respected Granite Sellers Association that led the rally from the stadium as the first to arrive, to the dazzling Itungodo community and to the Olubi community followed by Adeboruwa, Aiyegbami, amongst other communities that joined on the way. They rallied around the nook and crannies of Igbogbo with joy, happiness, and much verve. All elated to witness the colourful and glamorous celebration of Igbogbo town.

Consequently, the rally featured many attractive displays of cultural and traditional appreciations. The dances and chants of pride alluding their various associations and communities was interesting to watch as the glooming town of Igbogbo was basking in euphoria of ebullience and elation.

Moreover, Judges were on watch to award marks to the most organized, colourful, customized, glamorous and fantastic display among these communities and associations. The rally continued until about 1pm when everyone had to rally on to the King’s Palace at Adeboruwa Road to hear the verdict of the judges concerning the association or community with the most glamorous display of culture and tradition

After much fantasy, ABOSAN  emerged as winners of the rally,glooming OLUBI community took 2nd position, while the TAILORS Association emerged 3rd position. It was a fun filled celebration, filled with enjoyment and entertainment. The people continued their celebrations with music, dance, and other forms of entertainment. The Igbogbo day celebrations continued but the rally was one of its kind in such a frenzy and fabulous atmosphere.
