30TH IGBOGBO DAY CELEBRATIONS





Since 1988, when the people of Igbogbo decided to hold an annual festival, it has resulted in the town being held in high esteem every year as one of such traditional, cultural and social communities in the country. 2018 celebration was significant as it commemorated a milestone of celebrating 30 years of greatness achieved by the famous Igbogbo town.

This year event featured personalities and dignitaries from all works of life which made the celebrations explicit. It kicked off on Friday, November 16, 2018 with the Iwure Traditional Prayers by 6am at the Adeboruwa Royal Palace followed by the Press Conference at Oba J.O Fatola Pavilion. Jumat Service was also conducted at Igbogbo Central Mosque and Day 1 celebrationss was culminated at the Mikkison Onas Event centre which hosted the Dinner with Oba Adeboruwa and was strictly by Invitation.

Consequently, Day 2, Saturday, November 17, 2018 was for the Igbogbo day International that featured different associations and communities that converged at Igbogbo Stadium rallying around Igbogbo town in happiness and elation with colourful, glamorous, and fantastic displays before rallying on to King Adeboruwa Palace to hear the verdict of the judges and the Abosan community emerged winners, Olubi community came 2nd while the Tailors Association emerged 3rd position. The carnival continued with music, dance and other forms of entertainment.

Day 3, Sunday, November 18, 2018 featured Artistes” Day held at Adeboruwa Palace by 12pm and later the Rams Fighting Competitions held at Igbogbo Stadium

Monday, November 19, 2018 was dedicated to Education as several educational competitions such as spelling bee, quiz , debate and other competitions amongst schools was hosted at the Adeboruwa Palace. The debate was won Community High School, Igbogbo.

Day 5, Tuesday, November 20, 2018. The event at the Igbogbo Stadium embodied the cultural and social heritage of the Igbogbo people as they explored their cultural attires, delicacies, and tradition. Culture display by neighbouring schools and invited cultural troupes was a joy to watch. Display of local dialect food, and a mini trade fair in which goods were displayed for sale, wrapped up the day’s event.

Day 6, Wednesday, November 21, 2018. This was the day set aside for Health in order to ensure the proper functioning of the body system and correction of defects affecting the health of the Igbogbo people. It started with Free Eyes Screening at the Adeboruwa Palace followed by Surgery at designated hospitals alongside free medical check-ups. Health talk seminar was at the Igbogbo Motor Park followed by Health Walk at the Igbogbo Stadium. Later in the day, the finals of the football competition called the Adeboruwa Soccer Final was conducted and Stadium road football team emerged winners of the competition and the 2nd Mini Trade Fair also took place.

Day 7, Thursday, November 22, 2018 was the ante- penultimate day before the much anticipated Grand Finale as it was set aside for Traders and Youths in Igbogbo town. All Traders were mandated to close up their shops amidst sanctions as the Oloja/Adeboruwa Day at the Igbogbo stadium featured the third and last day of the Trade Fair for the Traders in Igbogbo environs. Youths were not left behind as the Hotel de Shokis hosted the Youth Empowerment Programme and later in the day, Youth Gala Nite was held at Mikkison Onas Event Centre. At the Gala Nite, awards were given to those that empowered youths in the society. Dj competition took place which was won by Dj Rayce. Important dignitaries such as Engineer Gbenga Ogunlewe and many more that graced the occasion. Artiste that performed at the event included popular Nigerian Musicians “Qdot” and “Sholly Kay Omooba”. The Gala Nite Was definitely an eventful night.

Friday, November 23, 2018, Day 8 was the penultimate day before the grand finale of celebrations at it featured the Miss Adeboruwa Beauty Pageant at the Mikkison Onas Event Centre.

Saturday, November 24, 2018, Day 9 was the Grand Finale of celebrations which featured the Marathon race. The celebrations for the Grand Finale Featured important personalities including Alhaji Alabi Pasuma. The Final draws of Raffle Tickets was also conducted as lucky winners went home with prizes like Telephone, Generators, LCD Television, and the star prize was A car sponsored by Bashmayol Global Investment Nig. Ltd and everyone enjoyed themselves as it was a splendid celebration.

Sunday, November 25, 2018, Day 10 was set aside for Christian Thanksgiving service at C.A.C Igbogbo to wrap up the wonderful, blissful, splendid, fantastic and fun-filled celebration.
